TODAY'S QUESTION:
2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
... Ha ha ha HOW MANY.
For Perfect World, I have FOUR, five if you count the nascent Jiraiya.
For Silvermoon, I have: Diamond, Priscilla Roscius, Aaron Bowen, Djahne Nuumu, Kichi POW!, Etienne Gris-gris, The Mezzo Five, and Xayana Sayanov. That adds up to EIGHT.
For Bind on Pickup, I have: Greyspell, Audun Slagcarter, Mardainet Blackmantle, Viraj (Jones), Aranruth, Kan'jin the Younger, Turgon Watersong, Sho Zil, Mun Zil, and Ar Zil. That's technically an overlap with Greyspell, so we'll call it NINE and a HALF.
For Earth to Heaven Replies, I am a complete slacker and only have Victoriano Lalanda (JESUIT) and Abaddon completed. That's TWO. I am a SLACKER. ;_;
That's for forum games. I am not going to list each and every Graycloak, but a brief listing goes: Siddharsvara, Savitri, Sudhara, Devi, Dara, Omasvara, Laikhaila, Jurnendra, Dhairya, Ulbandi, Kairos, Dion, Caius, Orien, Ireys, Dante, Lucius, Sein, Black Yamada, the Rajani, the Niss, Wyanet East-Witch, Wyarras, Ruth Deathmantle, Rill, Lin, Lump, Nevidita, Anjin, Parrish, Teal, Roman, Lais, Jurne, Andarainne, Severan, Surya, Jennet, ...
Lots.
Lots.
That's not even counting Greyspell's contingent, which gets into The Aunts, Mirain, Mardainet, Messalina, Aglaik Stormreaver, Auriane, Captain Saeros, Greyspell, Sr., and sometimes a hojillion Warcraft NPCs.
So, anyway, whether I have more female or male? I think it actually tips evenly up the middle, with a few more female in the writing side, and a few more male the RP/forum side. I hestitate to say that my male characters are more active, because they aren't; Greyspell, Kenrou, Diamond, and Djahne - my most-written/-played - are all reactive, passive gentlemen. Kan'jin is a less obvious example of this, because he goes out and kicks ass, but even he is generally under orders (usually from his female raid leader). Viraj is a conscientious and active young warlock, but he is almost always overshadowed by his XO, Arolaide Jones, who is a very, very active lady; likewise Kenrou is almost always overshadowed by his lady Chikara, a tiny whirlwind, or his assistant, Tsurian, who kicks ass.
Of the Graycloaks, it gets a bit thornier, because I am trying my hardest to make that a meritocratic and gender-egalitarian society (to balance the Adroanzi matriarchy). It's hard there because the Graycloaks prize children, and to that end, Graycloak women are under a larger burden than the men. They recognize this; most of the seated lords, those who stay in the cities, are female. (In Siddharsvara's time, this is actually not true, and is unusual - the Survey-lord is female, when usually this is a male post, as it is in Dion's time, when the Survey-lord is Viraj. n_nv! The Magician of Siddharsvara's time is also male: the bronze lord Omasvara, the witch-lord, He of the Chair of Teeth.)
Anyway: it depends on the story. I usually tend to think of "this is a cool thing to happen, I wonder who would do it" when I'm writing, rather than the RP norm of "this is a cool character, I wonder what she could do", which makes a difference.
