12. In what story did you feel you did the best job of world building? Any side-notes on it you’d like to share?
... :D :D :D
The Graycloaks are my own stand-alone novel-thing, and I think that I have done fairly well with them. I'm proud of how much detail I've put into them, and one day I hope to show y'all my incestuous baby-eating kinslaying fishbelly-white psychotics, and their Long Night and Long Day, the Speakers and the Autocrats and the Champions, the law-lords and the law-swords, the strangling-cords and the sacred shadows, the frozen lake and the registries, and the Rajani.
The Rajani, and the Niss, and the Registers, and Kairos's Locksteps; the Great Mother, the Sanctuary, the Wasp and the Sow; the fields of Rosehaven, the towers of Mountjoy; the Kingsroad, the Forgeroad, the apple-road and the ironbound and the sisters of seven secrets and the brave one out of the south and the first Omasvara, the Magician, He of the Chair of Teeth. (Omasvara Mayavin tanartin Vainazika Dhaumradana does not fuck around.)
The cuisine of Badra, the Zealots and the Shades and the Niss, and the neesi, and the law stating that the lord of Badra must always be male; the veils and the sands and the swamps.
I am very proud of how I can still see the seeds of my fourteen-year-old self's retarded notions, and yet how I've pruned away all the most retarded naive things, and made them over into Ireys, and Orien, and furious Dante Morningstar, and Ruth Death-Maid, and Yamadharma Sudhara, the terrible king. (He is still, secretly, my favorite, except for Serge, and except for Dion, who shaves his dark beard every morning and who will run afoul of Jennet Dawnmere, and for Caius who was once the icky ice queen Adamant.)
I'm pleased with it, is what I mean to say.
I'm not saying I didn't also contribute heavily to the radsauce of Perfect World (I did), or of Silvermoon (CIBOLA AND AMANTSU!), or the complicated blood elf fanon that Ali and I totally called (GREYSPELL WAS TOTALLY RIGHT ABOUT CATACLYSM, SUCK IT, KNAAK), but Graycloaks will be my magnum opus.
Man, I have to get snappier on these. Two-day responses? Pish posh.
