Day 04 — Your favorite zone (Classic, BC, WotLK & Cata)?
In Classic, my favorite zone forever and ever was Un'Goro Crater, because this was where I cut my warlocking teeth: ON DEVILSAURS. I would perfect new specs by going to the Crater, running around to find a devilsaur, and killing it in the face. It was also aces for mining up some rich thorium, which I would sell for ridiculous amounts of gold back when "ridiculous" was defined in terms of "six hundred gold". I was Viraj McMoneybags, swimming around in a tiny pool of gold, all thanks to my habit of smacking devilsaurs.
I also quite liked Loch Modan; I just thought it was pretty, and peaceful, and a nice place to fish. My absolute favorite fishing spots in vanilla were the Twin Colossals (nightfin!) and Karazhan. The Twin Colossals was prettier, but Karazhan had better music.
In TBC, my favorite zone was the Netherstorm. Oh my GODDDDDDD blood elf lore. Why is their life so hard? Why the smack? Why the crack? Why the demon hookers? How did KAEL'THAS SUNSTRIDER turn into a ravening eatbeast of crazy? WHA HAPPEN and why did no one care because oooooh Arrrrrrthas u so hawwwttt? WhatEVER. The Scryers and the Aldor had some sweet throwdowns, and by that time I was heavily into the bloof lorking, so there was a lot of fuel to my fanon fire in re: how the blood elves lost their collective sanity.
Moreover, the Netherstorm is beautiful and creepy, and Nexus Prince Haramad rocks my socks!
My favorite Wrath zone is easy: Zul'Drak. The questlines are awesome, the effects are beautiful, and it is not full of retarded retcons like most of Icecrown. Cal likes to call our favorite questline "Pretty lady needs a hug", because: she is a pretty lady, and she needs a hug. Trolls don't hug their gods properly. Instead, they EAT THEM.
My favorite Cataclysm zone I still need to think about. For sheer RP awesome, and evidence that I am right, I am going to vote the overhaul of Desolace. For pretties, Deepholm is far and away the favorite. Therazane is just gorgeous, and I love the tie-in to Maraudon. Bloodsmithing is screamy cool and I am working on how to incorporate it with Greyspell's awful. So far, my favorite fishing zone is Twilight Highlands, except that naga keep coming up to annoy my fishins!
