SCOTT PILGRIM! also, RP/Writing Meme: 9

First, I saw Scott Pilgrim vs. The World on Saturday. :D :D :D

I felt it faithful to the feel of the manga.

THINGS I LOVED:
- Wallace!!!!!!!
- Golly, Anna Kendrick is lovely.
- JULIE'S BLEEPING.
- Envy looked great. I always did like Brie Larson even if her name is cheesy.
- Kim also seemed great, I was sad she did not get more backstory or fleshing-out but what there was was dead on.
- "Chicken isn't vegan?"
- Ramona was wonderful. Wonderful. I had a couple of stops when looking at her, though, because Cal and I had the same thought, that she was what a few pseudo-hipsters of our acquaintance always wished that they looked like but did not. Her HAIR!
- I had been worried about whether Jason Schwartzmann could carry off Gideon's effortless cool. I shouldn't have.
- KNIVES IS SO GOD DAMN CUTE.

THINGS I DID NOT QUITE LOVE:
- the mind-control bugs? What?
- that's basically it.

THINGS I TOTALLY WAS FINE WITH:
- Everything else.

And now for

9. How do you get ideas for your characters? Describe the process of creating them.

hnnng. Kiya suggested, "I don't. I just write down what they do." This is fairly accurate; I don't often think of characters first, I think of the plot and then 'who performs plot' derives naturally from there. If I just sit around and have a character and wonder what I can have them do, it doesn't tend to go anywhere, which is why when I have a character I tend to RP them, and when I have a story I will go and write it.

This is, of course, why all the Graycloaks have changed so radically since their inception; back then, I had no idea of what story I wanted to tell. Now I know what their story is, so I'm still finding out who they are as it goes.
